About the Summit

The Mediterranean Basin is widely recognized as one of the world's most vulnerable climate change hotspots, warming approximately 20% faster than the global average. Home to more than 510 million people, the region is already experiencing severe consequences of climate change through record-breaking heatwaves, prolonged droughts, devastating wildfires, catastrophic floods, biodiversity loss, and growing water scarcity.

Mediterranean cities and regions are both highly exposed to climate risks and key drivers of climate action. In response to these shared challenges, the Mediterranean Climate Summit brings together cities, local and regional governments, academia, civil society, and international stakeholders to strengthen cooperation and advance collective climate action. As the concluding event of the Mediterranean Climate Dialogues, the Summit serves as a platform to exchange experiences, showcase innovative solutions, and foster partnerships for a more resilient and sustainable Mediterranean.

With COP31 taking place in Türkiye, the Summit offers a timely opportunity to articulate a strong and unified Mediterranean voice within the global climate agenda. Participants will contribute to defining common regional priorities on climate adaptation, just transition, climate finance, and loss and damage — helping shape a shared Mediterranean perspective ahead of COP31.

Organized by: Muğla Metropolitan Municipality & ICLEI Europe – Local Governments for Sustainability.

The programme will be bilingual (Turkish and English) with simultaneous translation.
